Bluetooth

The Bluetooth feature enables wireless short-range communication using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology. This allows mobile device connectivity, sensor integration, and local device configuration.

Overview

Bluetooth connectivity enables:

  • Mobile app control via LUIS
  • Device configuration and provisioning
  • Local data exchange

Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE)

AppBlocks uses Bluetooth Low Energy for:

  • Low power consumption
  • Modern smartphone compatibility

Configuration

Configure Bluetooth with these properties:

  • Device Name: Visible name in Bluetooth scans

LUIS Mobile App Integration

The primary use of Bluetooth is connecting with the LUIS Mobile App:

  • Monitor device variables and status
  • Update settings and configuration
  • Provision WiFi credentials

Range and Power

Typical Bluetooth LE range:

  • Indoor: 10-30 meters
  • Outdoor: up to 100 meters (with clear line of sight)
  • Factors: Obstacles, interference, antenna design

Power consumption considerations:

  • BLE uses minimal power when idle
  • Advertising mode consumes more power

Linking to Settings

Bluetooth properties can be linked to settings for:

  • Custom device naming

Use Cases

Common Bluetooth applications:

  • Initial device setup and WiFi provisioning
  • Mobile operator control panels
  • Local diagnostics and troubleshooting

Bluetooth and WiFi Coexistence

When using both Bluetooth and WiFi:

  • Both operate on 2.4 GHz band
  • Modern chipsets manage coexistence automatically
  • Minimal interference with proper firmware

Troubleshooting

Common Bluetooth issues:

  • Cannot discover device: Check visibility settings and power
  • Connection drops: Reduce distance or remove obstacles
  • Interference: Move away from other 2.4 GHz devices
